Traveling with children by car can be a real challenge for any parent. However, you have something special during a car trip that is hard to beat anywhere else. 

What you have is time. Lots of quality family time with each other. Time to spend together without the distractions of everyday life.  Time to talk, sing, read to each other and play games. Time to  make memories. It’s precious time, so don’t waste it.

 If you get a chance to map out your trip before you go,do it..,There are some great web resources to help you find something fun along the journey to make your trip more interesting.

When traveling in the car or on an airplane, a great entertainer is reusable stickers. Your children can stick and re stick them on the windows of the car or airplane. Also, lollipops are good for ear aches during flying or long drives..

 Also,to keep the children alert you can play a road trip game. This game will challenge the children to look for certain items on the trip.  For example, you can challenge them to look for license plates for all 50 states. If you create a list ahead of time, they can simply check off the states as they find them.  You can use this states.doc with your kids while on your trip.

Finally, attitude is everything: expect problems, go with the flow and everything will work out great. Travel is hard and traveling with kids is even harder. But if you treat your trip like an adventure, annoyances, missteps and mishaps simply become small obstacles for your hearty band of explorers to overcome.

Whenever one of my friends returns from some time away, I ask: “Was it a vacation, or was it just a trip?”

When traveling with kids, true vacations are pretty hard to come by. With the packing, the car seats, the change in sleeping schedules, and all the inevitable whining that comes along, it would be way easier to stay home (especially when traveling by car.)

And yet traveling is important. When we travel, we open to a world that was previously unknown to us. We touch other cultures and other ways of life; we broaden our own perspectives and understand, finally, that our small problems are just that.

When we travel with kids, we open their eyes to all of this and more. Even when we take a simple trip to visit distant relatives, we show them a world of love that they may not had known existed.

Here are eighteen tips to help you enjoy road trip traveling with your kids.

Before the trip:

1. Use online trip planning websites to locate kid friendly parks, historic monuments, and other attractions in advance. Plan at least one child oriented activity each day, even on those driving days. Involving your kids in the planning of your vacation will help them to get excited about the trip, too.

2. When you are doing your research and booking your destination, consider an all inclusive resort. These types of arrangements (in which your lodging, dining, attractions, and activities are included) can really help you relax and enjoy your precious vacation time.

3. Have each child pack their own small backpack with the books, workbooks, and activities that they most want to bring.

4. Have a kid friendly travel map on hand, as well as a pair of binoculars.

5. Consider buying or borrowing a portable DVD player. We only get ours out on long trips, but it has been really helpful, especially if you are traveling very long distances.

6. Get each child a special book of games, puzzles, or simple coloring books, just for the drive, along with some washable markers.

Being on the road is no walk in the park. In fact, the romance of the road can be highly overrated when you factor in mishaps and perils that make you lose valuable time. And not even your best designer mechanical pocket watch can recoup the time lost (not even Big Ben itself). Here then are practical travel tips to help you avoid common time wasters on the road.

Avoid Shortcuts

Unless you know the terrain like the back of your hand, you should avoid alleged shortcuts through dirt roads and unmarked paths. You might not see anything of interest on the interstates but at least you can go from coast to coast on good roads, hopefully without too many hassles.

Besides, Hollywood movies do have a grain of truth to them. You certainly do not want your mechanical pocket watch to be the only thing left as you explored a dirt road with a maniac at its end. Then again, if the purpose of your travel is to see the back roads of America, then you are welcome to them.

Take the Train

Between traveling by car and traveling by train, the latter is often more desirable. At least, in terms of time since train systems can be timed to the last minute of your mechanical pocket watch. No more flat tires, overheated radiators, busted air conditioners, psycho hitchhikers and other perils of the road, which use up your time.

Unless Bonnie & Clyde’s successors exist, you also avoid highway robberies and road rage. And you do not have to drive! The downside is that you cannot get out of a train to admire the scenery up close but it is a disadvantage well worth it.

Bring a Bandage to Airports (And Your Acting Self)

You are probably incredulous about the connection between a bandage and saving traveling time. Well, it is quiet simple really. When you are in a very busy airline hub, you can wrap the bandage around your ankle and then limp like your life depends on it. If you are lucky, and dumb luck plays a big role in traveling, you will probably get an electric cart for the disabled. No more running around chasing after the time on your mechanical pocket watch! The first road to be built in Kowloon, following the cease of the Qing Dynasty, Nathan Road is the prime walkthrough that centres around the dining and shopping culture manifested in Hong Kong. A favourite tourist attraction, the road is inhabited by series of shops and restaurants, which at night sparkles brightening the once darkened passage.

Originally named Robinsons Road once it completion in 1860 under the British colony the road was named after Sir Hercules Robinson, the fifth Governor of Hong Kong. However to confusions caused to the another namesake road found on Hong Kong Island, the road was officially renamed to Nathan Road in 1909, to pay respect to Sir Matthew Nathan, the 13th Governor to Hong Kong. Though the road was a residential street in the early time, colonial-style houses streamed the street with verandas and decorated archways, now it has become a cultural hub for the people of Hong Kong.

Passing through several prime districts of Kowloon, Nathan Road interconnects Tsim Sha Tsui, Jordan, Yau Ma Tei, and Mongkok. If the colourfully bright neon lights do not enchant you, move further along the walkway from to Tsim Sha Tsui to Prince Edward. Shops and eateries line both sides of Nathan Road, along with the alleys that lead onto the main street. Find trinkets and little treasures while scanning the shopping outlets, and indulge in treats at the many eateries, which call out to your gastronomic cravings.
